Is Your Website Accessible, or Does It Just Appear to Be?

A website can look clean and modern and still block real people. Many sites pass a quick automated scan yet fail WCAG 2.2 AA, because scanners and overlays can't tell whether a form makes sense to a screen reader or whether a menu works by keyboard. The only way to know for sure is manual testing by a trained tester, followed by fixes in the site's actual code.

Why can a site look accessible and still fail?

Accessibility is about how a site works, not how it looks. A page can have nice contrast and tidy headings while hiding problems a sighted mouse user never notices. Common examples we find in Webflow sites:

• Menus and popups that can't be opened or closed with a keyboard
• Focus that disappears, so keyboard users lose their place
• Form fields with no real labels, or error messages a screen reader never announces
• Images with missing or meaningless alt text
• Buttons built from plain text blocks that assistive tech can't recognize

Automated checkers catch some of these, but not all. Overlays and widgets don't fix them either, because they sit on top of the code instead of changing it. We explain why in do accessibility overlays work.

How do you find out where your site really stands?

You test it the way people use it. That means moving through every key page with only a keyboard, listening with a screen reader, zooming to 200 percent and beyond, checking color contrast, and filling out every form, including the error states.
